Championship Winning Season 2010...

Here you can find a brief review of our NSFL Championship winning season 2010...

Road To Victory! - We started off our campaign against local rivals Stratford Haven FC, with captain Chris P on the score sheet as we ran out 5-0 winners in West Bridgford. The following weekend was to see a change in fortunes as GK and Club Secretary Martin M suffered a serious leg break for the Saturday team and on the Sunday we suffered a heavy defeat against LIS FC, although it was against a very weakened side. With confidence slightly damaged we played a nervy encounter in the next match against Grosvenor, with R Mason and Dan S providing the goals to seal a 2-1 win and get our title push back on track. That was the start of a fantastic 13 match winning run in the league, that saw us achieve memorable victories over Lion Revived(8-2), Notts Elite(12-1) and superb 5-0 victory over AC Broxtowe, their biggest defeat in 12 years.

This was enough to send us top of the league, with LIS FC and AC Broxtowe drawing and LIS FC suffering a surprise defeat to league minnows Beeston. As we prepared for our return match against LIS FC, we were confident of gaining revenge and all started well as we went 1-0, but a very poor team performance on the day saw LIS FC run out with a deserved 3-1 win as we dropped to 2nd in the table. With the new league leaders confident we were out of the title running and AC Broxtowe closing in on us from 3rd place, we were determined to bounce back and fight our way back to the top. We set about doing that against local rivals Stratford Haven FC, who again had a miserable day as they were on the receiving end of another 5-0 defeat. Then followed 9-1 and 6-2 victories over Edwalton FC and a scrappy 3-2 victory over Real Nottingham which was enough to send us top of the league again.

Then came our return match against AC Broxtowe which had become our title decider and we made the worst possible start as we fell 1-0 behind, before Mike H scored minutes later to level and then shortly after halftime skipper Chris P scored a towering header to make it 2-1, and Mike H added a 3rd to make the points ours. The game was spoiled late on by poor refereeing that saw Broxtowe awarded a penalty and both teams reduced to 10 men following a scuffle. We saw the game out comfortably to secure a 3-2 win and extend our lead at the top. With 2 games remaining and us needing 3 points to secure the title, we excitedly looked to our next fixture against our former reserve team, Beeston biz. This was however to prove tricky as they cancelled a number of fixtures in their attempts to stop us winning the league, so as other teams completed their remaining fixtures we dropped from 1st to 3rd still having our 2 games to play. Then finally after league Committee pressure on Beeston, the fixtures were back on!

Sorry Beeston Hit For Six As Notts Utd Win The League! - On Sunday 16th of May we finally managed to get our remaining 2 league matches played, no thanks to league strugglers beeston biz, who came up with a variety of excuses in a feeble attempt to prevent us from winning the league Championship. We were set for a double header at Greenwood Meadows, knowing that we needed just 2 points to win the title. Beeston were probably still busy thinking up excuses as the whistle went and we surged forward, with ex-beeston man Kane M putting in a great cross for Mike H to put us 1-0 up in the 1st few minutes. We continued to make all the chances, hitting the woodwork and missing a host of other chances before a beeston player took a dive in the box and won a penalty just on half time, making it 1-1.

After strong words at the break from Manager Mark H and Utd skipper Chris P, the 2nd half was much improved, with a flagging beeston side looking clueless as to how to stop our attack, before finally being crushed in the 70th minute as Mike H scored a rare headed effort to send the many Utd fans and players in attendance wild. We piled on the pressure, preventing beeston from getting out their own half until the whistle went and after 9 months hard work, we finally secured the title with 1 game to go.

In the 2nd match we made 11 changes as a glum-looking beeston prepared themselves for another mauling by the Champions, and that is how it turned out with AK scoring a quick goal to give us the lead, before Stuart D announced his return after a year out injured, with a 30 yard wonder strike that flew into the top corner and made it 2-0. Club legend Tom W then scored directly from a corner before AK added 2 more to seal his hat-trick and then one of our midfielders fired in a rocket that almost took the posts down as it hit the back off the net, finishing the match at 6-0.

Thanks to everyone who played a role in our success this season, both players, supporters and staff. We finish the NSFL season with 20 wins from 22 games, scoring 101 goals and finishing with the best defence in the league and most clean sheets, a superb record that shows what all the hard work and training has been for. A special thanks to Club Captain Chris P who has wrote his name into our history and has been an inspirational leader throughout the season. Roll on next season!!!

Do I not like that!!!!

Taxi for beeston! - beestons very own mike bassett regrets turning up!
